Psychic Abilities

Your future told! Your destiny revealed! What are the lottery numbers!?

Whether we believe in psychic powers or not we are constantly surrounded by the possibility of their existence. Although, that usually appears in the guise of people who are trying to con us into giving them money to tell our future..... Surely if they could REALLY tell my future they would KNOW I wasn't going to pay up and wouldn't have bothered asking in the first place!!

I may sound skeptical but I do actually believe that psychic abilities exist (albeit not in the way those people would like me to think). Most people might not be able to predict how the rest of their lives are going to plan out but everyone has strange experiences from time to time that they cannot explain.

Have you ever heard the phone ring before and just KNEW who was on the other end of the line? Even though you had no rational way of knowing it. How many times have you been in a situation and had a strange sense of deją vu, even though you don't ever recall being in a similar position. Call me crazy but I think those events are signs of psychic abilities that everyone possesses.

Think about it. We already know our sub-conscious mind is very active by the fact that we dream when we are asleep. We dream of images that seem strange and irrational, but are obviously generated within our own mind. This suggests that the human brain is a lot more active than we are aware of. It is often said that we only use a few small percentage of our brain's capacity. So what is the rest of it actually doing?

I have a theory which could account for some events which are explained as psychic phenomena. Be aware that these are just my own personal thoughts and they have probably been disproved by someone many years ago anyway. But hey, humour me for a few minutes! :)

Our bodies have many different senses such as sight, touch, smell, taste and so on. All the information detected by these senses flow straight into the mind which allows us to gather information, detect out surroundings and react accordingly. Mostly we are only aware that we are processing information from a sense when we are consciously using it. For example, when you sniff a scent you are then aware of your sense of smell. The rest of the time you don't pay much attention to what is being detected by your sense of smell. But it must still be gathering information because if you suddenly come into contact with a strong aroma you are alerted.

So perhaps it is possible that our senses are collecting and processing immense amounts of information about every minute detail around us all the time. Obviously your conscious mind could not cope with all this constant and unrelenting input (you'd go crazy!) but that doesn't mean your sub-conscious isn't quietly processing all this at the back of your head.

The point I'm making is that you've probably got a vast library of information inside your mind that you are consciously unaware of, but which you tap into instinctively at times via sub-conscious thought. So perhaps the last time you felt like you knew something but couldn't explain it, it was deep thoughts inside your brain "coming to the surface".

For example, take the occurrence of just KNOWING who is on the other end of the phoneline. Perhaps, you were in the same room at that person at some point in time, and through some gesture or choice of words they signified that at some point they might phone you. It might not even be something as obvious as that. It would probably be something so remotely linked that your conscious mind would never ever link the two events (i.e. the intention to phone you and the actual phonecall). But your sub-conscious is forever processing so when that phone rang it calculated, using a lifetimes worth of knowledge, who the most likely person on the other end might be.

You might think that is a little far fetched and even the world's fastest supercomputers can't collect and organise information that quickly and efficiently. But the human mind is more sophisticated than any computer ever built. So surely it can process faster than any built?

I could go on much deeper into this subject as I have many ideas and theories concerning this area. (Hey! I think too much, I know!! ;)) But, I won't waffle on any further unless someone actually finds this interesting. It would be kewl to hear anyone else's theories on this or anything "unexplained".
