Types of Demoscene Writers

Adok/Hugi

Wade has mentioned a few styles that are widespread among diskmag editors in his article. Here are some more.

Spontaneous writers

These writers are quick thinkers, so quick that they forget their thoughts a few nanoseconds later unless they write them down. Therefore they are in a constant hurry to keep their thoughts saved. If combined with an attribute called "ego-centrism", these writers mainly focus on keeping their spontaneous "great" ideas for ever so that they can read them later whenever they want and get a "wowee, what a great philosopher I am!" orgasm. If you as an ordinary reader want to get some actual information from their texts, you'll need a highly sophisticated data mining algorithm or they'll confuse your psyche.

Just-for-fun writers

These writers think that writing is fun and that this is the only purpose of it. They write whatever they think to be fun and they either really have fun doing it or they'll quickly get tired of it. It's these writers whose articles end with sentences like: "Ouch, I could write yet more, but I'm tired and I gotta see my girlfriend anyway so bye and don't send be feedback!" Their favourite topics include carnivorous plants, get-rich-quick schemes and American skiing tourists who get buried by an avalanche.

Dead-serious writers

These writers embody the other extreme. They think that they'll only get appreciated if they write in a very factual and boring style. Often they are paranoid, thinking that the CIA or their future employer might be reading their articles and that for this reason they have to be extremely careful. When they realize that people find their seriousness boring, they try to get some humour into their texts by calling themselves prophets, but people will take this for serious and believe that they are arrogant assholes.

Relaxed writers

They don't write very often, as their main interests are of a different kind, but when they write, they enjoy it. They neither think one should write in a dead-serious nor in a completely crazy manner but they know their audience, are aware of their need for jokes to introduce some variety into the texts, and therefore they write in a rather serious yet humorous style. After seven articles they might develop into either a dead-serious or a just-for-fun writer, though.

Scandalous writers

They're extremely provocative, in fact they're always searching for ticklish topics and they'll deal with them in a disrespectful manner. Watch out for them, they're lurking everywhere, on IRC, in the scenial newsgroups, and you might be their next victim! On the other hand, these writers, or let's say editors, don't have a sharp sense for deadlines, which is why it's likely that their mag won't get released before you're out of the scene.
