In my eyes, the scene is dead
Black/Twilight
It seems I'm getting more and more out of touch with the scene as each day passes by. Nothing makes me laugh anymore, everybody has become fucking famous, and nobody notices the up and coming talent of a newbie group or an individual. The only worth thing looking at in 1999 was Fukwit Daddy and maybe some other carefully selected productions, and Moral Hard Candy was superb too, but other than that it's all become predictable. Take Sunflower for example. The group consists of the really elite people, who are unique in design and other qualities that make a scener, and the members were already known by their achievements in the scene before 1999. But when I look at their two demos for now, Wonder and zilog, what can I say? Wonder tends to be a bit better, because it is very revolutionary in the field of 3D acceleration.. but Zilog.. I mean, it's okay, but that's all it is. You don't run the demo 2-3 times a week like you were bound to with, let's say, 303 with the catchy tune along with nice design, or even 73 million seconds, which actually is my favourite right along with Sunflower's demos in design and music.
The scene is dead in my eyes, and I wish it would live again, maybe even on some alternate platform, like Linux. All we need is a Statix of the Linux tendancy, and here Skal has the least difference from the desired model. Take a look as State Of Mind, you have a Linux, Dos and Windows version, radical design, sadly, a commercial tune, but that is really not something you could put on. Like Unreal said and maybe some other people, basically we don't care what you do and how you do it, but if it looks good, we won't say a thing. But some people actually think a scan = lame and mp3 commercial music is lame too. Well, that depends on the case. In the case of State Of Mind, it is the opposite. Great demo anyway.
It's easy to notice demos for the Linux platform, as there are not many made for Linux, although all the tools you need to make a demo under Linux are there.
That automaticaly pops up a question. Why don't you do a demo then, instead of 'preaching' here about raising the quality of demos? Why don't you raise it yourself? That answer is by far the easiest here, we do and we try to in each possible way, just look at the demos from Twilight. 3 years on the scene and our knowledge of primitive design and coding have definately raised the level of the Slovenian demo scene, but in Slovenia we basically don't have any competition anymore, since maLi and Greco left the scene, or to say it mildly, they have become as active as most of the people today.
And still we hold the top ranking Slovenian demo group, even if we are not actually that known for our achievements outside Slovenia, although our neighbours (Italy) have already noticed us, and are starting to respect us as we respect them.
Anyway, the whole point was "Why don't you make something different that falls out of the dogma of the demo scene, something that has never been done before, try something new, try optimizing source code for example.." :)))
